Shonaquip is committed to improving the quality of life of people living with severe disabilities. We specialise in designing and manufacturing affordable modular seating systems and other postural support equipment.
As a parent of a child with severe physical disabilities, I found the assistive devices and disability equipment available in South Africa inappropriate and far too standardised to be of any practical use to our daughter, Shelly.
People with neurological damage, muscular disorders and post traumatic injury need to be supported in a comfortable position. This equipment needs to provide firm pelvic support, with special attention given to accommodating contractures and deformities and preventing unwanted movement patterns and reflexes.
Shonaquip also provides training for parents, caregivers and therapists in the fields of therapeutic seating and positioning and the use of alternative and augmentative communication.
